Many aircraft in the Royal Canadian Air Force carried nose art but Clarence knows of only two that featured tail art, “Ol Daid Eye” and “Just Testing”. Little is known of this artwork other than it was painted next to the rear turret of a No. 408 Squadron RCAF Halifax. The cartoon features the hapless Dagwood Bumstead from the comic strip “Blondie” who is about to test a parachute. Aircrew were issued with a parachute prior to each flight, often by a member of the Women’s Auxiliary Air Force or “WAAF” who often remarked, “If this one doesn’t work, just bring it back and I’ll give you another one.”
