This Canadian designed and manufactured engine was built at Malton, Ontario. The engine was built for the only Canadian designed jet fighter to see operational use, the CF-100 Canuck. Named after the god of the Iroquois, the Orenda was developed by a small group of about forty young Canadian engineers and became one of the most successful turbojet engines ever built. By 1954, more than one thousand had been delivered to the Canadian air force.
It was test-bedded on Lancaster FM209.
