This school was located thirteen kilometres east of DeWinton. Construction of the station began in 1940 and #31 Elementary Flying Training School began operations on 18 June, 1941. Grass runways at Gladys and asphalt runways at Shepard were used as auxiliary landing facilities. The school opened as a Royal Air Force base and RAF staff were in charge. However in the summer of 1942 the school became civilian operated and instructors of the Toronto Flying Club and their families arrived from their former base at Malton, Ontario. The school closed on 25 September 1944, as did RCAF Detachments Gladys and Shepard.
